Dear Prospective ERHS Orchestra Members and Families,
Thank you for taking the time to look at our website and for considering becoming a part of the East Ridge Orchestra family! In our 11 years of existence, the ERHS Orchestra program has grown from one ensemble of 6 students to three ensembles of progressive ability levels and over 100 students.
There are many reasons to continue studying music in high school. The East Ridge Orchestra, Band and Choir programs offer a comprehensive high school musical experience for students of all levels throughout their four years at East Ridge. Music courses fulfill the fine arts requirement for high school graduation. Many music students also take rigorous AP and CIS courses and are amongst the best and brightest socially and academically at East Ridge High School. Most importantly, we believe that the orchestra, band and choir are a place where students feel they belong. Our students appreciate the change of pace that music brings during their school day as a different kind of challenge.
Participation in a curricular music course also opens doors for co-curricular ensembles. The orchestra program offers chamber music opportunities for student musicians as well as opportunities to play in the Pit Orchestra for the fantastic musical theater productions at East Ridge.
Musicians from East Ridge are regularly recognized for outstanding achievements including MMEA All-State Band/Orchestra/Choir, state, regional and national honor ensembles. All East Ridge music programs take regular educational performance tours. Recent destinations have included New York, Chicago and Cleveland. Students involved in music at ERHS get opportunities that are second to none! You will make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime!
While the high school schedule often leaves families feeling overwhelmed, we assure you that it is possible to continue in music throughout your high school career. Nearly all of our music students take AP, CIS and World Language courses to prepare themselves for college. Please do not hesitate to ask if you are have questions about fitting music into your schedule! I am here to help!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Kelly DeMorett, Director of Orchestras
